Dr Richard Sanders Rogers

Dr Richard Sanders Rogers (1861-1942) orchidologist, physician, Army medical officier, colonial militia, mental health practitioner, natural history collector, plant/seed collector. He demonstrated mental telepathy and hypnotic powers, was director of Keswick Base Hospital and accompany his regiment to the South African war.He was a member of various boards, including Public Library, Museum and Art Gallery.

S. A. Imperial Bushmen

S. A. Imperial Bushmen, Sixth Contingent. This contingent, comprising 11 officers and 127 other ranks under Captain Cornish, left Port Adelaide on 6 April 1901 on the transport "Warrigal" for Durban. After disembarking, they trekked inland to join the larger Fifth Contingent at Vrede on 18 May. Henceforth 5th and 6th SA Imperial Bushmen operated effectively as one unit under Major J.R.M. Shea, a Bengal Lancers officer, as part of Colonel de Lisle's column in the newly annexed Orange Free State.

Samuel Grau Hubbe

Lithographic portrait of Captain Samuel Grau Hubbe in his Bushmen's Contingent uniform, based on a photograph by Fruhling (date unknown). The engraving was done by T.C. Dalwood, signed on the 11 September 1900, and printed by J.H. Sherring & Co. Hubbe, commanding officer of the 3rd South Australian Bushmen, was killed in action near Ottoshoop, Transvaal, on the 12 September 1900. He was the highest ranking South Australian to die as a result of enemy action in the South African War.

The "Aldinga"

The "Aldinga"

The "Aldinga" (2), 3078 gross tons. Triple expansion engine 10 knots on 27 tons of coal per day. Cargo vessel laid down as "War Cloud" and completed as the "Glenstal" by Dublin Dockyard Company for the Limereick Steamship Company Limited. Launched 19 February 1920, ran trials 13 May 1920. In 1921 was bought by Adelaide Steamship Company Limited and renamed "Aldinga". In 1951 sold to South African owners and renamed "Natal Coast". In April 1955 ran aground in fog off Walvis Bay with a cargo of timber and palm oil. Total loss. Aldinga is the Aboriginal word for tree district and hunting ground.
