Summary

S. A. Imperial Bushmen, Sixth Contingent. This contingent, comprising 11 officers and 127 other ranks under Captain Cornish, left Port Adelaide on 6 April 1901 on the transport "Warrigal" for Durban. After disembarking, they trekked inland to join the larger Fifth Contingent at Vrede on 18 May. Henceforth 5th and 6th SA Imperial Bushmen operated effectively as one unit under Major J.R.M. Shea, a Bengal Lancers officer, as part of Colonel de Lisle's column in the newly annexed Orange Free State.
