A collection of mounted photographs relating primarily to exploration and maritime topics in South Australia and the Northern Territory, together with a small collection of portraits of people associated with the Royal Geographical Society. Two group portraits of Aboriginal people, from Port Lincoln and from Kopperamanna are included (photographs 9 and 15). Photographs 67-70 relate to the Flinders Centenary 1902. The following photographs have not been digitised (copies are held elsewhere in the Pictorial Collection or not related specifically to South Australia): 2. A collection of circular tin plate badges with pin attachment on back, relating to Australian political issues from the 1970s to the 2000s collected by Molly Brannigan. Topics include: Australian Labor Party, Vietnam Moratorium Campaign (VMC), peace movement and an end to war, anti-nuclear and uranium mining protests, nuclear disarmament, Friends of the Earth, May Day peace marches, Socialist workers, Aboriginal land rights and reconciliation, against ANZUS and US bases in Australia, independence for various countries, Australian Independence Movement of the mid 1970s, and miscellaneous political badges. The "Aldinga"

The "Aldinga"

The "Aldinga" (2), 3078 gross tons. Triple expansion engine 10 knots on 27 tons of coal per day. Cargo vessel laid down as "War Cloud" and completed as the "Glenstal" by Dublin Dockyard Company for the Limereick Steamship Company Limited. Launched 19 February 1920, ran trials 13 May 1920. In 1921 was bought by Adelaide Steamship Company Limited and renamed "Aldinga". In 1951 sold to South African owners and renamed "Natal Coast". In April 1955 ran aground in fog off Walvis Bay with a cargo of timber and palm oil. Total loss. Aldinga is the Aboriginal word for tree district and hunting ground.
