Mrs. McGregor, an elderly woman, from Kapunda sitting in a chair. Mrs Fanny Charlotte McGregor (nee Walsh), was born at Greenock, South Australia, on 11 January 1870 to Patrick James Walsh and Hannah Maria Gamlen. Fanny married John McGregor in Adelaide on 16 September 1891. She died on 23 June, 1959.

War Loan tank in Kapunda

On the afternoon of Tuesday 16 April 1918 the War Loan tank arrived in Kapunda. The Kapunda Herald reported, it was "met at the southern end of the town by the Mayor and others. A procession (which included school children under Mr. Murphy) was formed, and the tank escorted through the main street. The tank was in charge of Lieut. Colley, who was accompanied by two officials of the Commonwealth Bank. In the evening an enthusiastic meeting was held at Mr. Thompson's corner....After a few remarks by the Mayor (Mr. T Jeffs), Lieut. Colley gave an outline of the war loan..." Kapunda Herald 19 April 1918, page 2. The 35 hp Overland tourer, registration number 4926, in the foreground was registered to Mr. Sidney Kidman of Eringa, Kapunda. The Kapunda Herald reports that "Mr. S. Kidman, of Eringa, put in 50,500" Pounds.

Crowds at Kapunda greet the Governor Sir Day Bosanquet and his party

Welcoming crowds of children and adults waving flags greet the Governor of South Australia Sir Day Bosanquet and his party after their arrival by train at Kapunda railway station; a military escort and a band wait by the official welcomers. The Governor arrived on a special train at 11.45 am on Wednesday 4 October, and was welcomed by the mayor, Mr R. Rees and members of the town council. The Governor was entertained at lunch at Anlaby by Mr Henry Dutton, then visited the Kapunda showgrounds in the afternoon and inspected the exhibits at the jubilee show of the Kapunda and Light Agricultural Society.

Christ Church Anglican Church was designed by Edmund Wright. The foundation stone of the church was laid in April 1856 by Dr Blood and the building was completed in 1857. The clock and bell were made in London and installed in 1866. Stone for the church was donated by Charles Bagot and came from the Dutton Hill quarries at the mine.

Anlaby Station

Anlaby Station

Outbuildings at Anlaby Station. Frederick Hansborough Dutton took the lease on the property near Kapunda and named it Anlaby for a village in Yorkshire, the village of his sister's husband. Analby Station is the oldest merino stud in Australia and plays an important part in South Australia's history. The Duttons ran it as a grand English estate employing seventy staff. The property contained forty large outbuildings including a manor house, huge shearing shed and impressive stable block.

[General description] A well appointed country sports ground with a small grandstand and other buildings is seen behind a stand of eucalypts. The park was named after well-known pastoralist Frederick Dutton who provided financial support for many community activities in the area in the 1800s. Distant view of the township of Kapunda. Township of Kapunda in the 1860s. It was established after copper was found in 1842 by Francis Dutton and Charles Bagot. Mining began in 1844 and continued until 1879. The railway line from Adelaide was opened in 1860.

Christ Church Day School, Kapunda. Reverend Hornabrook and Miss Day ran the Day School in Kapunda. This building was used as the Parish Hall from approximately 1905. A famous headmistress of the Christ Church Day School was Ellen Bentham who held this position for two years starting in 1893 before studying in Europe. She returned to teach at Dryburgh House School in Adelaide and later at Tormore House School. She was the first female academic at the University of Adelaide

St. John's Catholic Church, Kapunda

St. John's Catholic Church near Kapunda - from a painting possibly by L. Tomkinson. According to a researcher, the foundation stone for the church was laid in 1850 and the church was officially opened in 1854 and demolished in 1946. The area was known as Johnstown and was approximately five kilometres east of Kapunda.
