Koonunga

Photograph taken from a sketch of Koonunga, Captain Bagot's station, near Kapunda. Around 1840 Bagot selected a section of 1500 acres at Koonunga on the River Light on which he ran sheep in partnership with FH Dutton. Bagot was the first to use John Ridley's reaping machine. He is remembered as a pastoralist, mine owner, and parliamentarian.

This plan of Section 159 in the Hundred of Nuriootpa was surveyed in 1859 and drawn in 1877. Shows lot numbers and measurements of the land adjacent to William, George and Murray Street and Kapunda Road. Ink and watercolour on paper.

Postcards received by Annie Beattie

A collection of postcards received over approximately ten years by Miss Annie Beattie, together a smaller number received by her younger sister, Emmie. The earlier ones to both sisters (approximately 1906-1910) are addressed to 'Dunn Street, Lower North Adelaide' [the family home]; during the same period a few are addressed 'c/- Jas. Marshall & Co. Rundle Street, City' [Jas. Marshall & Co. ran a drapers. importers & general furnishers' business at 24-34 Rundle Street]. There are a number addressed to Annie 'c/- Mrs Bowman, "Poltalloch", via Milang' (ca.1907); others are addressed 'Martindale Hall, Mintaro' (ca.1908-1909). By 1911 Annie appears to have returned to Adelaide. A final postcard is written by 'E.B.' [Emmie Beattie] to Miss Eva Decre. The postcards feature various views of Adelaide and surrounds, together with cards from Mount Gambier, Port Victor / Victor Harbor, Mildura, Kapunda, Wallaroo, Port Lincoln and Quorn. Dear Mrs Smith, This mornings' mail from England brought a letter from Mr James Waite with some enlargements of the small photos he took at Mutooroo early in the year. I am enclosing three that I think you may like to have in memory of the old days. Today looks most promising for rain and I hope we may get a real good downpour. With kind regards, yours sincerely, H.R. Adamson".

'Mabel', to whom the photo was gifted, was Mabel Dawn Waters, nee Lovering, born 10 July 1881 at Kapunda, SA; died 10 May 1948 at Bassendean, WA.
