A bullock wagon hauling wheat sacks past the Sir John Franklin Hotel, Kapunda. This hotel existed from 1849 and is located in Main Street Kapunda. Bullock trains travelled between Burra, Kapunda and Port Adelaide at three and a half miles per hour. The trip from Burra to Port Adelaide would take eight to ten days

Christ Church - Kapunda - interior view showing the carved oak screen presented by Henry Dutton of Anlaby. The screen was taken down in 1924. The church was built in 1856 and reflects the opulence of the mines. The organ, seen on the extreme right of the photograph, was improved and enlarged several times until 1886. The interior of the newly built church was fully furnished with pulpit, reading desk, altar and rails made of cedar. There was also a stone font and leadlight windows over the altar. The building was designed by Edmund Wright

[General description] This is the front section of Kapunda's Baptist Church built in 1867. It features twin Italianate towers of bluestone with sandstone quoins. It was principally financed by George Fife Angas, the chairman of the South Australia Company and its architecture reflects the confidence of the mining boom of the era. [General description] Built by the Cornish miners in 1858, this bluestone church has a slate roof and small belfry over its facade. It has a low stone wall in front and another stone building, probably the church hall, next door. Interior of Christ Church, Kapunda. The church was built in 1856 and reflects the opulence of the mines. It was rebuilt in 1880 and 1887. The organ can be seen on the extreme right of the photograph. The original organ was incorporated into the new one which was built in 1880. After this failed an improved larger organ with fine tapering pipes was built

Residence of Sir Sidney Kidman at Kapunda called Eringa. He died at his property at Unley Park also called Eringa. He was a landowner, owning many stations. When Kidman moved his office to Adelaide he donated his Kapunda house to the Education Department to be used as a high school. The building had been constructed for Alexander Greenshields in 1879. The photograph shows maintenance work being carried out on the house

Eringa was built in 1879 by Alexander Greenshields, a successful Kapunda draper and was originally called Lanark House.

[General description] The tower and spire is dominant in this view of the imposing gothic church, designed by Edmund Wright, which reflects the wealth and confidence of the mining boom at that time. There is a white picket fence and wooden gates. The first sermon was read by the Reverend F.P. Strickland, on Sunday 11th October 1857. [General description] Built in 1858 by the Welsh mining community, this stone chapel features a quaint belfry and porch. Next to it is the church hall, erected in 1912. Also built from stone it features decorative woodwork on its gable. Sir John Franklin Hotel, Kapunda. The proprietor at this time was Edward Lancelot Richmond. The hotel stands in Main Street and is a painted sandstone two storey building with a partial verandah over the front door.

[General description] Prince of Wales Hotel, Kapunda, established in 1858, listed National Trust (file number 2153). It is a two storey building with wide verandahs and a billboard in front advertising the Olympic Star Picture Company's film Enoch Arden which was doing the rounds in the mid-north in 1911. The licensee at the time this photograph was taken is John Kearne.

St. John's Church - building on extreme left is Girl's Reformatory. According to a researcher, this was the first Catholic Church in the area. The foundation stone was laid in 1850 and it was officially opened in 1854. It was demolished in 1946. After the St. Rose's Church was built in Kapunda, St. John's was used as a school and then in 1897, under the supervision of Mary MacKillop, was made into a girls' reformatory which was operated by the Sisters of St. Joseph until 1909. The church was built on twenty acres of Glebe land given by the Government for church use in 1849.

The gentleman is wearing a coat over a shirt and vest, with a bow tie and broad-brimmed hat. Photographer H.J. Thwaites was based in Kapunda in 1875, and the photograph was likely comissioned by the homestead owner.
