From back of photograph: 'Photograph taken at the Adelaide Hospital c.1904. The lady with the wide hat was Miss Mary Ann Whimpress, a domestic servant in a home in The Avenue, Medindie, who was about to leave hospital after one of the first operations for appendicitis. The girl in the dark dress seated in the second chair from the left had been 'scalped' by belting [?] in an Adelaide factory and is wearing a wig. Donated by Mrs A.M. Kelly a daughter of Miss Whimpress.'
