Prior to its development the site was a lucerne paddock where Sir Henry Ayers carriage horses were pastured. The cars are L-R 1970 HG Holden Kingswood, 1971 Leyland Mini Clubman sedan (1098cc), c1965 Morris Mini Deluxe sedan (998cc), and a c1965 Morris Mini Delux sedan (998cc) with surf bars on the the roof. The building behind is at 279 North Terrace, (see B 25916).

Sellicks furniture retailer is having a removal sale on the ground floor. On the left is part of the premises of well-known Adelaide jeweller C.W. Ottaway which closed in January 2016 after ninety-three years trading. [General description] Street scene with cars, the focus being on the Imperial Hotel, built in 1866 for Asher Hamm with Michael McMullen being the architect. It is situated on the NE corner of King William and Grenfell Streets. Advertisements for Orlando wines and West End beer are prominently displayed. The hotel, built in 1866 is soon to be demolished and replaced by the National Mutual Building (1961). The car in the centre is a Holden 1950s FE or FC. Waymouth Street, south side, 31 January 1964, Waymouth Street frontage is 17 yards and Cannon Street frontage is 18 yards. Right side of the building abuts Cannon Street. On the corner stands a branch of the English Scottish and Australian Bank which was established in Adelaide in 1864. In South Australia the bank had 47 branches. The building was the former Shakespeare Hotel. An FC Holden is parked on the street.

An MGA Roadster turning right into Freeman Lane from Pirie Street. Parked on the south side in front of Frank McCabe gem merchants and Super Elliot sportstore are L-R, an AP5 Chrysler Valiant (1964), a Holden FC Special Station Wagon (1958-59), a Ford Falcon Sedan (1960-65) and a Ford Customline (c1955). The Fred Astaire Dance Studio can be seen on the south western corner of Gawler Place and Pirie Street. The banners on the newspaper kiosk include the 'Truth' referring to the Beaumont Children and the 'Advertiser' referring to the upcoming visit to Australia of US President Lyndon Johnson. [General description] The Somerset Hotel is a two storey building with wide verandahs and balconies. It was established in 1851 and demolished in September 1991. On the right is Maughan Thiem Motor Co., on the extreme left is City Motors, specialising in Holden.
