There is a cyclist in the foreground. On the extreme right is the new House of Assembly, completed in 1889. Next to it is the old Parliament House in which the Legislative Council remained. [General description] Brookman Building, purpose built in 1903 for the Scool of Mines, is situated on the corner of North Terrace and Frome Street. It is named for Scottish Industrialist Sir George Brookman, M.L.C. who donated $15,000 towards its construction. Designed by architect Superintendent of Public Works C.E. Owen Smyth it is a three storey red brick building in the Federation Gothic style. On the left is the dome of the Exhibition Building. South Australian Institute Building and the Public Library on right. The southern half of this building was erected in 1860 showing a typical example of a Renaissance style in a Victorian building. A white wooden fence and a post box stand outside the building.

[General description] The newly completed Elder Hall, built from freestone. It is in the Florentine Gothic style, designed by architect Frank John Naish and constructed by North Adelaide-born master builder Walter Charles Torode. The foundation stone was laid by Governor Buxton on 26 September 1898 and the building was opened with a concert on 27th April, 1900. Part of the Exhibition Building is seen on the right. [General description] This view of Victoria Park Racecourse shows part of the grounds, racetrack and buildings including the new grandstand (on the left) which was constructed in 1882. It was Adelaide's first official racetrack, called the 'old course' until 1897 when it was renamed Victoria Park in honour of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. H.M. S. Mildura

[General description] The H.M.S. Mildura, a Pearl Class Cruiser of the Royal Navy is moored at Port Adelaide, floating between water and sky. She had a short career, built in 1889, scrapped in 1906. H. M. S. Protector

[General description] 'H.M.S. Protector' lies between sea and sky with interesting effects ceated by reflections. The 'Protector' arrived in South Australia in 1884, built for the South Australian Government. In 1910 she was aquired by the Commonwealth for the Royal Australian Navy and served during World War I.
