[General Description] Interior view of the General Post Office Telephone Exchange soon after its opening for business on the 25th July, 1894. A row of women switchboard operators are supervised by a well dressed woman sitting at a raised desk on the left. The man seated in the foreground is possibly the Post Master General, Sir Charles Todd. [On back of photograph] 'New telephone exchange / 1st August 1894'.
