[General description] Proclaimation Day crowd celebrating on Glenelg Beach. Picnic parties, many accompanied by their horse and cart, are spread out along the beach into the distance. In the foreground people, dressed in their Sunday best, stroll about near the marquee of the 'Glenelg Restaurant' and the 'Oyster Saloon'. Note the pony cart in the foreground. The vendor appears to be selling nuts of some kind. [On back of photograph] 'Glenelg / The Esplanade, looking South from near the Institute / December 28th 1896-1900'.
