Summary

[General description] Construction of the dam required a large amount of metal as seen here. The dam wall is on the right, farm buildings and the scour tower can be seen in the middle distance. [On back of photograph] 'Happy Valley / Reservoir in the making / About 1894'.

General notes

The residence in the foreground was the family home of Henry Douglas established 1838-1839. To the right was his original winery. It was later was used a storeroom/work shed whilst the scour tower was being constructed. This farm was a wine producing farm from 1839 and from early 1850's it produced wine commercially.
