Panorama of Adelaide

360 degree panorama of Adelaide photographed by William S. Smith, May 1917. Some views from this panorama are published in The Observer newspaper, 26 May 1917, pages 24 and 25. The newspaper reports; "With the completion of the second huge chimney stack at the Electric Light Works on East Terrace, the enterprising photographer of The Observer seized the opportunity to take a panoramic view of Adelaide. With great difficulty he climbed the ladder inside the structure, and then, setting his camera, secured the pictures presented above. The top photograph gives a fine idea of the stretch of plains from Hutt Street to the foothills, with the Victoria Park Racecourse in the middle distance. The bottom plate, which joins the other on the right, gives a striking birdseye view of City buildings, with the General Post Office and the Town Hall on the extreme right. The new Education Block, in Flinders Street, will be readily recognised just to the left of the Post Office. The panorama when joined together measures nearly four feet."
