Burke's Tree
Burke's tree, Innamincka. The following notes are taken from a sheet attached to the back of the photograph. '....sad task. It was south-west of [Tootawatchie?] and in flooded country. The spot was about forty miles from Innamincka and a little to the north-west. Mr Kenny, before leaving the place made certain a white man was buried there. The description of a swamp with eucalypts and a claypan close at hand would easily fit many places in the district especially after a fall of rain. No one regretted it more than Mr Kenny when in 1913-14 he had all arrangements made to re-visit the Cooper and was unable to get away. It is a pity he was unable to revisit the spot as no doubt some of the natives would have remembered him and helped him. I enclose a photo of another "L" marked tree on the Cooper about twelve miles below the junction of the Thomson on Retreat station (east bank). I will be pleased to let you have any information re Mr Kenny or the Cooper that I may possess. Yours faithfully RE Larcombe.
