This is a full length portrait of Sir James Fergusson, seated at a table reading a book. He sports well trimmed mutton chop whiskers and is attired in day dress which consists of a short jacket and light coloured trousers. A cane and spats complete his outfit. He was the ninth Governor of South Australia from 16 February,1869 - 18th April,1873.

He was Governor of South Australia, from February 1869 until February 1872 when he was appointed Governor of New Zealand. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the Overland Telegraph.

[General description] Head and shoulders portrait of Joseph Fisher in three quarter view. He is grey haired with a neatly trimmed beard and wears a rose in his lapel. One of Adelaide's prominent citizens, he was a newspaper owner (The 'Register' and 'Observer'), parliamentarian and benefactor . An astute accountant and businessman, he was director for several firms including the Bank of Adelaide, the Port Adelaide Dock Co. and the South Australian Gas Co. He was an enthusiastic gardener, tending his large garden at Woodfield, Fullarton.

He was an enthusiastic gardener and loved his roses and trees at his home 'Woodfield' at Fullarton. He renovated his home and filled it with local art. He represented Sturt in the House of Assembly and sat in the Legislative Council. He is depicted here standing proudly in his garden watched by a flock of seagulls.

Reverend Walter Jones had lived in Gawler during the last twenty years of his life working for the Congregational Church. He left in 1901 to take a position in Brisbane. He had always acted on his principle that to be a Christian was to be a good citizen

The details of the men in the photograph are the Staff of Mount Gipps Station from left standing; George Lind, Philip Charley, Sidney Kidman. Seated, at left thought to be George McCulloch but he is now believed to be the man on the right. A researcher has suggested that the man seated on the right is Philip Charley. Henry Thomas Morris
Henry Thomas Morris arrived in South Australia in December 1836 on board the ship "Buffalo" with his uncle Admiral, Sir John Hindmarsh. He was born at Gravesend in 1823. He established stations at Hindmarsh Valley, Encounter Bay, Reedy Creek near Mount Gambier. Later he was manager at Anlaby Station in the Barossa Valley for the Dutton family. At his last appearance at the 1907 Commenoration Day he praised the early pioneers for overcoming difficulties in the new colony. They were mostly sons of wealthy families and because the promised pre-purchased acres of land were not immediately ready for them they had to settle on the banks of the river at Glenelg in primitive huts built of reeds and pines

Rebecca Murray and David Murray
[General description] Portrait of Rebecca Maria Murray, nee Godfrey, and her husband David Murray. Mr Murray is standing and resting his hand on the back of his seated wife's chair. With his brother William he started a retail drapery store in King William Street, which became the wholesale drapery D & W Murray, later the prominent Adelaide firm of Goode, Durrant & Murray. He was an MP in both houses and an avid art collector.
