He was Governor of South Australia, from February 1869 until February 1872 when he was appointed Governor of New Zealand. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the Overland Telegraph.

One of Adelaide's prominent citizens, he was a newspaper owner (The 'Register' and 'Observer'), parliamentarian and benefactor . An astute accountant and businessman, he was director for several firms including the Bank of Adelaide, the Port Adelaide Dock Co. and the South Australian Gas Co. He was an enthusiastic gardener, tending his large garden at Woodfield, Fullarton.

Henry Thomas Morris arrived in South Australia in December 1836 on board the ship "Buffalo" with his uncle Admiral, Sir John Hindmarsh. He was born at Gravesend in 1823. He established stations at Hindmarsh Valley, Encounter Bay, Reedy Creek near Mount Gambier. Later he was manager at Anlaby Station in the Barossa Valley for the Dutton family. At his last appearance at the 1907 Commenoration Day he praised the early pioneers for overcoming difficulties in the new colony. They were mostly sons of wealthy families and because the promised pre-purchased acres of land were not immediately ready for them they had to settle on the banks of the river at Glenelg in primitive huts built of reeds and pines

With his brother William he started a retail drapery store in King William Street, which became the wholesale drapery D & W Murray, later the prominent Adelaide firm of Goode, Durrant & Murray. He was an MP in both houses and an avid art collector.

Fanny Pascoe. According to a researcher, Fanny Lucretia Pascoe was born 26 April 1865 and died 12 August 1940. Fanny was never married and had a habadashery shop in Kapunda. She is the first child of 11 children. Her parents were James Henry Pascoe, born 8 August 1839, died 12 October 1907 and Fanny Pascoe born 9 November 1843, died 10 October 1932.

Portrait of George Ragless Senior arrived in South Australia in June 1838 with his father John and seven brothers and three sisters on board the ship "Eden". Father John Ragless lived at Pine Forest (Enfield). Son George was a cattle and sheep farmer at Willochra and later lived at "Battersea Park" at Edwardstown after trying his luck during the gold rush. George was married at Gawler Plains on December 30, 1857 by Rev. Thomas Lloyd. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1907. George Ragless died at his home in Edwardstown in 1909

Walter Vernon Ray was born near Manchester in 1880 and was educated at St Peter's College and Adelaide University. He obtained his law degree in 1907 and practiced in Port Adelaide. He was a keen educationist and lover of books and became associated with the Port Adelaide Institute in 1912. He was a Freemason, past master of St. Peter's Collegiate Lodge and Principal of St Peter's Collegiate Royal Arch Chapter. He was a prominent member of the Adelaide University team. He left Port Adelaide Institute in April 1930 to take up the position of Stipendiary Magistrate at Wallaroo.
