Eudunda township
Eudunda township. The township was established in 1870 after the early settlers began moving into the area. Overlanding followed by pastoralism were the main uses of the land. The nearby fresh water springs provided a watering stop for stock brought overland from New South Wales. The founder of Eudunda was John Henry Hannan who owned the land that was surveyed and divided for sale. The photograph shows the store owned by AWF Klaebe opposite the Eudunda Hotel on the corner of South Street. The Klaebe store initially operated as the Hambour's Drapery which serviced all the needs of passing stockmen. The hotel was established in 1882 and at the time of this photograph the proprietor was Ernest Albert Mann. A researcher has provided the following information: "The Eudunda Hotel, or 'Top Pub' as it is known locally, was actually constructed in 1873 and run by John Hannan, who was the owner of the land on which it sits. Before the hotel building was constructed, the area was the site of a wine store which was opened in the late 1860s by Henry Watson, to serve to passing stockmen. A.W.F. Klaebe's Store did not originally serve as Hambour's Drapery - that business was located further down the street and opened a few decades later."

Eudunda railway station
Eudunda railway station. After the introduction of the railway Eudunda was a booming town. The pasing rail and road trade supplemented the farmers who were using the town as a regional hub. The railway split the town into halves streching from north to south. The rail lines stretched from Eudunda to Morgan and Kapunda to Eudunda and Eudunda to Robertstown. A researcher has provided the following information: "The Eudunda Railway Station was constructed in 1878. The railway line, which ran from Gawler to Morgan (North-West Bend), was opened in September 1878 by Governor Jervois, with other leading parliamentarians and notable South Australian figures on the train that day also. The view in this photograph is actually of the rear of the station; the photo was taken looking in a NNE direction. On the left side, the Railway Goods Shed is visible. In the far distance is the former Uniting Church, which was constructed in the mid-1880s."
