Mount Gambier Roller Flour Mill

Mt. Gambier Roller Flour Mill: Under verandah - Tom Lewis, Alf Lewis, Bill Smith, Roger Battye, Jack Wilson (in cart), (sitting) Jim Telfer. The Mount Gambier Roller Four Mill was built in 1885 on the corner of Sturt Street and Bay Road, by Thomas Henry Williams. The mill was expanded in the late 1890s and 1900. Thomas Williams was also on the town council in 1876 and was mayor from 1881 - 1882. He was the first man to own a motor car in Mount Gambier. This was the fourth mill built by Thomas Williams. His second mill, the Commercial Steam Flour Mill, was located on Percy Street, and built in 1867.

Mount Gambier Hospital Staff : Standing: Sister Lizzie Moody; Alex V. Benson (Dispenser); Nurse McKenzie. Sitting: Nurse Foast; Dr. John Johnson; Sister Renfrey. Mount Gambier Hospital was constructed on the slopes of the Lakes area on the south side of Lake Terrace, West. It was a substantial stone building complex and served the district for many years. It was demolished in 1971 and part of the dolomite was used to complete additions to the vestry of the Anglican Christ Church

The Commercial Roller flour mills at Mount Gambier with staff posing for the camera in front of the building. On the left men are unloading bags from a wagon drawn by a team of Clydesdale Horses. The Commercial Mill was built in 1895 and operated by Mr. T.H. Williams. The modern roller machinery was installed in 1892.
