Historical information

No. 2446 Private William Richard Wood, born in Mount Torrens, South Australia, son of Elizabeth Wood, worked as a butcher before he enlisted with the AIF on 19 June 1915 at the age of 23. He served with the 27th Battalion, 5th Reinforcement and embarked with his unit from Adelaide on board the HMAT A32 'Themistocles' on 13 October 1915. He served in France and transferred to the 10th Battalion in February 1916 and died of wounds on 17 April 1918, and was buried in France.
