Historical information

No. 2331 Private Charles Cooper, son of Elizabeth Cooper, born in Seymour, Tasmania, aged 23 when he enlisted with the AIF on 31 March 1915 in Keswick, South Australia, and served with the 12th Battalion, 7th Reinforcement. He embarked with his unit from Melbourne on board the HMAT 'Persia' on 10 June 1915. He returned to Australia on 3 January 1916 and was discharged as medically unfit. He re-enlisted in Queensland as No. 6242 Private Charcles Arthur Cooper, with the 6th Battalion on 29 October 1917. He died at Campbellfield, Victoria, on 14 February 1918. Charles Cooper may have enlisted under a false name - his true identity may have been James or Arthur Alexander Board, son of Bridget or Elizabeth Board (nee Cooper).
