Summary

The iron barque 'True Blue', 456 tons, on Fletcher's Slip, Port Adelaide [iron 3 mast barque, 456 gross tons, ON60915. 152.3 x 26.0 x 15.8. Built 1869 (2) Oswald and Co., Sunderland. Owners: JL Parker, registered London, sold mid 1870's to M Backelin, of Sweden and renamed 'Mathias', returned to British flag and original name in Port Adelaide in August 1884 when purchased by WR Cave and Co., converted into a hulk no later than August 1896 the property of Adelaide Steam Tug Co. Ltd. Register closed in August 1947 when customs advised the vessel had been holed and beached for use as a breakwater at Yarrabah mission, Mission Bay, near Cairns, North Queensland].

From the volume titled 'British Owned Iron and Steel Barques (I)'.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
