Its owners:- W.Sherwen & Sons, builders:- A.Stephens, Glasgow, 1875, Tonnage Registered:- 619, Under Deck:- 573, Net:- 597. Length:- 173.7ft. Breadth:- 28.6 ft Depth:- 17.5 ft. Port of Registry:- Liverpool. Lloyds Registers for 1898-1901 owned by Damaraland Guano Co. (Limerick). In 1895 its master was James C. Connell, born in 1869 in Whitehaven, whose maternal grandfather was Captain Lowden, mentioned in the 'Last of the Windjammers'. Note from Ron Parsons "I find no reference to this vessel being owned by Lowden and Co.]

Information from a researcher: 'The master of the Barque 'Primera' was Griffith Shone Thomas. Born 1849 in Bangor, Caernarvonshire, Wales. It was in 1900 that the Primera was damaged by fire and sunk. Griffith Shone Thomas died as a consequence of this sinking'.

From information provided by a researcher: Henry John (Harry Nobbs) from Cowes on the Isle of Wight, England, sailed on the Primera in about 1900 when he was 16. The ship was wrecked and he survived a number of days in an open boat before being rescued.
