According to a researcher, the shop was started by Max Young and his brothers after World War Two. The last operator of this business was Peter Roberts who commenced working for Max Young as a youth. The business ceased, and closed its doors in late 2017 .

According to a researcher, Elders, at this particular time, were situated in part of The Mount Gambier Hotel at the Main Corner of Commercial Street West and Penola Road. This part of the Hotel faced directly onto Commercial Street.

According to a researcher, this photo was taken at street level as per the reflection of the car parked on Commercial Street. The Ticket Box was just out of focus on the near right hand side and the entrance doors showing are for the down stairs section. Stairs to go upstairs were directly opposite those doors.
