According to a researcher, the people are Ken Crombie, Birdsville mail driver, George Williams (nephew), mail offsider, Vera O'Donouhue, passenger, and station hand Tommy. They are inside the old homestead at Cannuwaukalanna (Cannuwaukaninna) while bogged. The lighting is a camel dung and fat lamp.

One of a series of 38 photographs taken during a trip along the Birdsville Track in 1939, this image is of five men and another person on or near a loaded truck, identified as belonging to H.E. Ding of Yunta. The truck is stuck in sand, a wooden pole between the dual wheels for traction. Two poles were standard equipment and carried on the truck under the tray.

The wooden poles used to to extract the truck from bogs can be seen in their spot sticking out from under the tray. A number of people are riding on the load on the tray of the truck.
