Loading a vehicle onto the back of a truck

One of a series of 38 photographs taken during a trip along the Birdsville Track in 1939, this image shows an enclosed vehicle belonging to the Methodist Inland Mission being driven onto the tray of H.E. Ding's truck, using a bank as a loading ramp. The activity is being watched by a number of men. The mission vehicle is being loaded onto the Mail truck for a river crossing at Birdsville. George Williams on left, his father Harry is on the truck bonnet.

Louie Faye on left, unknown to George Williams with thumbs in belt, Peter Hagan, Ken Crombie, unknown. Squatting on left is Billy Barton (school teacher) and Bill Brook. The dogs are a greyhound and two blue heeler cattle dogs.

One of a series of 38 photographs taken during a trip along the Birdsville Track in 1939, this image shows a truck parked at the top of a sand dune, with what looks like canvas (tent?) near bushes at the bottom of the dune. There are a number of footprints tracking between the truck and the base of the dune. Getting bogged on a sandhill on the return trip ended up becoming a camp site.
