Historical information

The South Australian Rymill Brothers entered the Australian Championship race in 1924 with 'Tortoise II', a new racing hydroplane, single-step and 26 feet in length, with the same 12 cylinder 450 h.p. Liberty engine that was used in 'Tortoise' in 1923. She was designed by John L. Hacker and built by Mr. Ben Weir, of Birkenhead. 'Tortoise II' finished third in the 1924 Australian Championship race behind the winner, John McGinnis Williams' 'Century Tire', thus enabling Queensland to host the race for the following year.
