Summary

Post Office, King William Street, west side of Post Office is 50 yards north of Franklin Street. Work on the General Post Office began in 1867 when Prince Alfred laid the foundation stone at the base of the Victoria Tower. This part was completed in 1872. The then single storey building was built of Murray Bridge freestone and was designed by Wright and Woods. In this photograph the tower appears shorter.
