World War One era badges (also known as buttons or 'tinnies') collected by the R.S.L. Most badges were designed and created to be puchased as a fundraising interest, in order to raise money for various factions of the Red Cross. Included are badges created for occasions such as Australia Day, Violet Day, Army Nurses Day, and French Day, and for charity groups including the Red Cross, the Cheer-Up Society, the R.S.A. Building Fund (Returned Soldiers' Association, which later became the R.S.L.), the Wattle Day League, Soldiers' Home, Children's Patriotic League, Nursing Society, and the Y.M.C.A., as well as official peace badges marking the end of the war and various miscellaneous badges including a Christian Endeavour convention, fundraising carnivals and memorial gardens. Most photographs were taken by Thiele, while others were reproduced images used as postcards. Also includes a handwritten note about the location of some of the images on the Suez Canal, and an envelope addressed to Cpl M.E. Thiele (believed to be Max Eric Thiele, a brother or other relative of Adelburt).

Entries begin on Tuesday 28 May 1918, describing: receiving embarkation orders from Mitcham to embark in June; leaving Adelaide for Melbourne and then Sydney; departing Australia on 6 June; reaching Wellington and Tahiti; celebrating his 20th birthday at sea on 6 July 1918; arriving at Brooklyn, New York and exploring the city; arriving in England 11 August 1918; travelling to training depot near Fovant, Wiltshire and beginning training including route marches, physical tests and lectures; leaving for London and then Glasgow, September; drill and gas training; transfer to 50th Battalion, 1 October 1918; more training near Fovant, including bayonet, bombing, drills; on leave in London, 15 November; travelling to and arriving in France, Le Havre, 22 November; travelling to Belgium and active service in Belgium. War diary describing Leo Terrell's experiences serving with the AIF during World War I, February to June 1915 and January to February 1916, Heliopolis Camp, Egypt. There is an account between 10-24 January 1916 about a 'mutiny without violence', which refers to treatment of soldiers, followed by a hearing on 3-4 February 1916. Also contains hand drawn maps of Suvla Bay and list of German words with English translations.

Letters written by Leonard John (Len) Harvey to his family in Moonta. Letters are sent from London and Blackpool while on leave, from "France", from the trenches and billetts. Topics include speculation about Billy Hughes' future in light of the conscription referendum loss, South Australian politics including his father's activities as Minister of Education, rationing in England and comments about the war including a comment about John Monash. Letters written later in the year talk about repatriation. Out of chronological sequence is a letter which had a strip of canvas attached. The letter claims that the canvas is from the plane of the Red Baron.
