Portrait of Carl (Charles) Werber, full name Melchior Nicolaus Heinrich Carl Werber, secretary of the Adelaider Liedertafel (Adelaide choir). Carl was married to Eugenie Gabler (nee Bauer) in 1889, he died in Sydney in 1937. This is one of 35 individual portraits which make up a composite of the 'Adelaider Liedertafel' (to see the composite photograph do a number search on B 36689).

Photographs taken during surveys for the Transcontinental East-West railway route

A set of 47 of 55 lantern slides showing early survey work, terrain, water sources, vegetation, camel transport, settlements and landmarks along routes under consideration for the transcontinental railway between Kalgoorlie and Port Augusta, 1901-1909. Slides include views of rock holes, soaks, tanks; trees and timber including quandong, black oak and sandalwood; vegetation such as spinifex, salt bush; terrain including gibber plain, granite outcrops, sand dune and salt lakes; camels and camel transport; and locations identified as Kalgoorlie, Eucla, Ooldea Soak, Tarcoola. Some slides cover the visit to Eucla and the Nullarbor Plain of the Engineers-in-Chief (1903); two slides show teams of men and survey equipment on the Nullarbor Plain. An additional glass plate negative which was found with the slides and appears to relate to this group of lantern slides has been placed with them.

A collection of photographs relating to the life of Frank William Nelson White (1903-1970) and his wife Ruby Alice (nee Sharpe). White lived in Norwood and served as both councillor and mayor on the Norwood Council in the 1940s and 1950s.

Two women and a baby pictured with a black dog at the front gate of a bluestone cottage. The women are wearing white aprons and one has a white head piece suggestive of Nurses' uniforms. A plaque at the front door says Mrs Hobby Ladies Nurse. The double fronted bluestone cottage with slate roof has the verandah iron painted in vertical stripes. Similarly the picket fence uses a contrasting colour on the main posts. This may be the residence of Mrs George Hobby, Nurse, listed in Sands and MacDougall's South Australian Directory for 1900 at 91 Beulah Road, Norwood. Hannah Elizabeth (Bessie) Savage (later Ashby) visiting from Sydney, standing in the formal garden on the south side of Wittunga house. The walls are covered with Virginia creeper. Many garden plants, including a clump of watsonias, are flowering. The garden bed closest to the house has a piped sprinkler system. There is no balcony on the house, an extension which was built some years later.

The photographs feature the Adelaide Botanic Gardens, Adelaide Zoo, the Eden Hills railway viaduct, countryside near the Gemmell's home at Bugle Range and scenes along the Murray River. The band Neptune Lolly Shoppe had been together for three years, when this photograph was taken. They had started to attract large crowds eg 200-300 in Adelaide and were making inroads into the Sydney scene, touring there regularly. This picture was taken about a month before they were offered a deal with Warner Chappell. They played alongside Ratcat, Tall Tales and True, The Hummingbirds, Garyclail and the on u sound system, Richard Clapton, Tommy Emanuel, the 1993 Big Day Out, The Wonderstuff, Dire Straits, and The Hothouse Flowers. Port River Expressway

The Port River Expressway under construction; the 5.5 kilometer freeway-grade road links Port Adelaide and the LeFebre Peninsula to the northern suburbs of Adelaide and major insterstate routes via Salisbury Highway to Port Wakefield Road and the Sturt Highway to Perth and Sydney. The expressway was built in three stages and opened in June 2008.

Tregenna studio of the ABC at Collinswood with John Starr standing to the left; the photo was taken by Ken Middleton (deceased), former ABC Controller of Engineering, Sydney. In 1959, the ABC bought Tregenna, that was on a four and a half acre block at Collinswood. Tregenna was set up as offices for television staff. In the early 1970s the Tregenna mansion was demolished, making way for the eight-story building now on the site.

A collection of 329 photographs of people, events and places on the Eyre Peninsula and west coast of South Australia. Places include Port Lincoln, Boston Bay, Kirton Point, Proper Bay, Warner, Myalpa Beach, Tod River, Lake Hamilton, Sleaford Bay, Woolshed Cave, Talia, Streaky Bay, Back Beach, Ceduna, Koonibba, Point Sinclair, Port Le Hunte, Penong, Kooringibbie Well. The album contains photographs documenting the Back to Port Lincoln Carnival celebrations, 7-14 February 1930; photographs taken at Ceduna of the Western Australian Centenary Air Race 1929 (also known as the East- West Air Race); the refuelling stop at Ceduna of the inaugural flight of Air Mail services between Adelaide and Perth 1929 and the 130th Anniversary of the Landing of Matthew Flinders at Boston Bay, 26 February 1932. A number of sailing ships and motor vessels visiting Boston Bay between 1929 and 1933 were photographed, among them SS Melbourne, Olive Bank, Hougomont, Viking, MV Phasianella, Minnipa, King Stephen, Moonta, Rhymney, L'Avenir, Grootekerk and the new aircraft carrier HMAS Albatross which was first commissioned in 1929. The photographs include some interesting images of farming and transportation on the far west coast of South Australia, and show glimpses of the lives of Aboriginal people at that time at Poonindie Mission, Koonibba Mission, Fowler's Bay and Ceduna region. The photographs in this collection were taken by E. F. Derbyshire during the years 1929-1933, when he as a commercial traveller for Clarkson Limited of Adelaide, suppliers of builders' tools and hardware. Dust storm about to engulf houses in Elizabeth Downs in February 1968. According to a researcher, this image was captured on a Saturday afternoon. The researcher witnessed the dust storm from a vantage point in the Adelaide Hills and recalls seeing the dust clouds rolling in over northern Adelaide.
