The 'Gem' and 'Marion' moored side by side at Murray Bridge. Reproduced as a postcard, the caption on the back reads 'Friendly competitors. By the 1930s the few remaining river boats catered mainly for the tourist trade. Cruises would be arranged between such places as Renmark and Goolwa with calls at towns along the way. Friendly rivalism between skippers would somtimes result in a race down river with each crew trying to outdo the other. Here the 'Gem' and the 'Marion' are moored side by side at Murray Bridge. Paddle steamer 'Marion'

Paddle steamer 'Marion' moored alongside two other river boats. The notation on the verso reads 'PS Marion with barges c.1919. The 'Marion' was first converted from a barge to cargo steamer for use along the Darling. In 1908 she was refitted for passneger service and ran between Murray Bridge and Renmark. She ended her working life as a tourist boat in the [19]40s and may now be found preserved as a memorial at Mannum. Photo: Frank Tucker Collection'. The paddle steamer 'Ruby', built in 1907 and currently [ca.1976] based in Wentworth at the Renmark wharf. The structure at the top of the wharf is a building which housed the shipping agents. It replaced a collection of cubicles which had served the same purpose. Kaines Collection

Collection of 15 photograph albums, containing 2943 photographs taken by Jack Kaines from the time he finised school until the end of World War II. The photographs act as a pictorial documentary of his life showing the places he traveled to around South Australia and Australia, including many roadtrips and daytrips visiting friends and family. Many of the photographs show the various cars that he owned. The photographs taken during World War II initially show many other Servicemen, but subsequently become mostly tourist shots. Except for a small number of photographs taken in Fiji, the collection ends with his war photographs, and the last 30 years of his life is not captured in this collection. A selection of photographs from his albums have been digitised and can be searched on PRG 1638.
