"About 2 miles of the journey had been covered, when travelling down an incline in the vicinity of the lagoon the boiler of the second engine (No 103), without the slightest warning, burst on the left hand side, and the concussion caused the engine to sway to the right hand side of the tack."

A reseacher indicates that all coal mined at Leigh Creek was transported by rail to Port Augusta for electricity generation.
