The photo has been identified as Arthur Edward Crofts, a stockman who assisted with the Walker Brothers prospecting expedition, travelling with the Commonwealth Government camels from Alice Springs to Meekatharra in 1913. Arthur Edward Crofts was born 3 July 1883 in Peckham, United Kingdom, and died 1 January 1949 in Perth, Western Australia.

[General description] Head and upper body portrait of the subject shows him partially bald with neat beard and moustache. He wears a check high- buttoned jacket. He was four years old when he arrived in Adelaide with his family and later, after a successful period of prospecting for gold became a hotelier, businessman and brewery traveller. He was a keen racing and cricket enthusiast. [On back of photograph] 'James Chittleborough Junior, / arrived in South Australia December 28th, 1836 by the ship 'Buffalo'. The following words' with the first Governor' have been struck out'.

[General description] Head and shoulders portrait of John Benjamin Graham, in an oval frame inscribed with the words 'Yours very truly'. He was a pioneering Adelaide businessman and prominent investor in the Burra mines. He built Prospect House, known locally as Graham's Castle.

James Harrington

James Harrington

James Harrington (1812-1873) arrived in South Australia onboard the "Katherine Stewart Forbes" in 1837 from England. They lived in the Reedbeds until flooding caused them to move to Prospect in approximately 1848, He married Amelia nee Barnard (1814-1899) in Essex and they went on to have 13 children, the first three born in Australia were not registered. Two of their children were born in England but only one of these survived . James's occupation was listed as limeburner and farmer and his religion was Methodist. He died aged 61. He was a colonist for 37 years.

William Burnet Poole

William Burnet Poole Manager of the Savings Bank of S.A. He was born in Adelaide in 1852 to Charles Samuel Poole and Caroline Fill and lived at Prospect. He died in 1926 in Adelaide. He was also an amateur Microscopist who prepared slides and was elected to the membership in the Royal Society of South Australia in 1886. He presented talks and exhibitions on various topics including grain rust, water polyzoa and parasites

Group photograph of Judah Moss Solomon (Mayor of Adelaide, 1869-71) Solomon was a merchant, born in London. He was an Alderman for Gawler Ward and Member of the SA Legislative Council, then Mayor of Adelaide from 1869-71. He was instigator of the Public Health Act. His concerns were drainage, waterworks and control of diseased meat. He was Chairman of the Destitute Board in 1877 through his care for orphans. He became the First President of Adelaide Hebrew Congregation. He died of cancer in Adelaide in 1880. James Shaw (Mayor of Adelaide, 1888/9) arrived in South Australia from Ireland being of Scottish descent. He was an engineer but become a contractor and builder in South Australia. Prior to arriving in SA he took part in the Maori War in New Zealand. He was contracted to supply masonry work and marble for the South Australian Parliament House. He treated his employees well, had a kind disposition and a generous heart. He followed the gold rush to Coolgardie where he became mayor. After suffering bad health he sailed to England where he later died Frederick William Bullock (Mayor of Adelaide, 1891/2) was born in Adelaide. He was a real estate agent and Mayor of Adelaide. As a 15 year old his mother took him to England on the City of Adelaide. His diary of that voyage survived. He lived at St Helen's at Prospect and was a distinguished Freemason. During his term of office the National Park at Belair was opened.

48th Battalion Regimental was raised in Egypt in 1916 by splitting the 16th Battalion. It comprised of South Australians and Western Australians and due to a large number of members of the same Prospect family - the Leanes it was known as the Joan of Arc Battalion (Made of All Leanes - Maid of Orleans) The flag (Colours) lists ten campaigns.

[General description] Late 1926 10.4 hp Fiat tourer parked outside the office of M.F. Hamblett, Land and Estate Agent. The Fiat, registration number 68430 was first registered to Headley George Wyatt, electrical fitter, of 29 Marion Place, Prospect. [On back of photograph] 'Acre 174 / Waymouth Street, north side / 29 September 1930 / Right side of centre building is 34 yards west of Topham Street / Frontage is 6 yards. [General description] This view is of the back lane behind the Franklin Motor Company, and the rear of its newly completed premises. This motor company is typical of many similar businesses that flourished with the rapid takeup of the motor car during the twenties. The car parked in the foreground is a Dodge 23.8 h.p. tourer owned by D. Norton of Croydon. The next car along is a 19.6 H.P. Dort, owned by E.O.A. Allen of Prospect. [On back of photograph] 'Acres 243 and 196 / Tatham Street, west side / Mar. 29, 1926 / Premises of the Franklin Motor Co. / Erected in 1926 / For Franklin Street frontage see B 3618 / The one storey portion was erected on a vacant site formerly used by Dr. Mayo for a garden. Near side of one story portion is 78 1/2 yards north of Franklin Street. Far side of the same building is 45 1/2 yards north of Franklin St.'

[General description] This one storey house, known as 'Prospect House' was in the possession of the Downer family for a long time. Although not thought to be particularly interesting architecturally it was spacious and commanded outstanding views. It was demolished in the 1960s. Albert Llewellyn Lang

No. 4900 Private Albert Llewellyn Lang, the 3rd child of Richard Lang and Rhoda Harvey, was born at Prospect Hill, South Australia. He was 28 years old and a farm labourer at the time of his attestation on 23 February 1915 at Keswick, South Australia. He served in France as a Driver in the 2nd Divisional Signal Company. He returned to Australia in 1919 and died at Fullarton, South Australia, on 14 September 1951. Albert never married and had no children.
