Information from a researcher: 'Mr Cowie in this photograph is Mr Henry Hutchinson Cowie, born 1847 in Liverpool, England to Henry Cowie and Ruth Hutchinson. They emigrated in 1853 aboard the 'Gomelza'. Henry Hutchinson Cowie was appointed a constable (aka 'Trooper') in the Mounted Police on 1 January 1878 (per South Australian Police Gazette, 9 January 1878). He resigned from the Police on 30 June 1879 - per South Australian Police Gazette 9 July 1879 - (after his marriage to Catherine Walters - possible a relation to Trooper Walters in this photograph). This photograph is partially reproduced in a newspaper article published in 1924 - NORTH AND NORTHWEST POLICE. (1924, July 1). The Register (Adelaide, SA : 1901 - 1929), p. 12. Another article refers to an ex-Trooper Cowie who had an eating house at White Cliffs - REMINISCENCES. (1933, May 24). The Kadina and Wallaroo Times (SA : 1888 - 1954), p. 1. Henry Hutchinson Cowie died 18 June 1897 in Prospect, South Australia'.
