The fair included a mock Egyptian wedding, 'conducted with all pomp and circumstance, in which Corporal Bastard will be the bridegroom and Private Ransamer will be the bride'.

Sir Ronald Munro Ferguson, Governor-General of Australia, addressing the crowd at the unveiling of the Gallipoli obelisk in the south parklands, 7 September 1915. Erected to commemorate the first landing of ANZAC forces on the Gallipoli Peninsula. The obelisk was cut from a block of granite and was surrounded by a pergola. It was located on a plot of land that was to be cultivated as a wattle grove. It was moved to its Lundie Gardens location on October 1940. It bears the inscription "Australasian soldiers, Dardanelles, April 25, 1915."
