This photograph, and SRG 6/34/10, were both taken at the Cheer Up Hut fair in January 1916, reported in: Daily Herald, Thursday 27 January 1916, page 3. The fair included a mock Egyptian wedding, 'conducted with all pomp and circumstance, in which Corporal Bastard will be the bridegroom and Private Ransamer will be the bride'.

Unveiling Gallipoli obelisk
Sir Ronald Munro Ferguson, Governor-General of Australia, addressing the crowd at the unveiling of the Gallipoli obelisk in the south parklands, 7 September 1915. Erected to commemorate the first landing of ANZAC forces on the Gallipoli Peninsula. The obelisk was cut from a block of granite and was surrounded by a pergola. It was located on a plot of land that was to be cultivated as a wattle grove. It was moved to its Lundie Gardens location on October 1940. It bears the inscription "Australasian soldiers, Dardanelles, April 25, 1915."
