Studio portrait of W.J. Browne, grazier and physician. At one stage William Browne was South Australia's largest producer of wool. As a member of the House of Assembly he introduced a Bill to abolish the sale of Crown lands and to lease them out instead. This Bill was thrown out but a similar one was later passed in both houses. Browne lived in Mount Gambier and built Christ Church there.
