[General description] Head and shoulders portrait of Charles Henry Goode in seven eighths view. He was a businessman, merchant, politician and philanthropist. In March 1865 he was elected to the House of Assembly for East Torrens, later resigning to attend to his business interests. He founded Goode, Durrant and Company in 1882. He was involved in many philanthropic and religious enterprises, eventually being knighted in 1912.

Clarence Goode had a chequered career, as a wheat farmer, a Labour politician (Member for Stanley including a stint as Commissioner for Crown Lands), a cotton farmer in Queensland and enventually, on returning to Adelaide in the depression years, a cleaner at the Adelaide Centenniel Park Cemetery. He was a judge, politician and enthusiastic federalist. He was appointed Q.C. in 1900 and was knighted in 1908.

He was an opthalmic surgeon at the Adelaide Hospital and also had a special interest in the childhood mortality prevalent at the time. Sadly he died young as a result of an injury recieved in a carriage accident.

George Woodroffe Goyder

[General description] Three quarter profile portrait of George Woodroffe Goyder. He is shown with greying hair, beard and moustache. A talented engineer and surveyor, he emigrated to Sydney in 1848 and later settled in South Australia. He became South Australia's Assistant Surveyor-General by 1856 and Surveyor-General by 1861. He was very active in his profession, often going into the field on horseback to deal personally with issues. He was a man of many achievements but he is best known for his work on the Goyder's Line of Rainfall.

George Hall M.L.C acted as Harbour Master to Thomas Lipson from 1840-1841. He started a business salt-curing beef. Worked on a cattle property near Angaston, then set up a shipping business in Port Adelaide. He was a committee member of SA Railway Company, Chamber of Commerce, Burra Burra Mine. He was a founder of SA Gas Company. He was elected to the Legislative Council and owned the property of Woodside House. The photograph is copied from glass portrait donated by Miss Alice E Hall of Frome House, North Terrace.
