Captain John Finlay Duff was a ship's captain and businessman in the Colony of South Australia. The Duff South Australian voyages spanned 1836 to 1848. Duff and his business partner Hallett, who were both part owners of the Africaine, together with Thomas Flinlay opened a store and shipping agency in Grenfell Street. In 1859 Duff became Harbourmaster and Lightkeeper at Glenelg

Walter Duffield was a pastoralist and politician in Colonial South Australia and Treasurer of South Australia from 1865-1867. He managed a wine estate at Euchunga which produced some of the first wine in the colony. He started business in Gawler as a flour miller and owned Weinteriga and Outalpa Stations with the Harrold Brothers. He held positions in the South Australian Legislative Council.

Annie Jane Dunca,n artist who painted scenes of Adelaide in the 1930s. She was a factory inspector born in 1858 at Port Adelaide. After the death of her mother and stepmother Annie went to live with an aunt at Dashwood Gully. As a factory inspector she condemned filthy and overcrowded working conditions which were unfavourable to health. She held a position in the Department of Labour and Industry.

Anne Duncan nee Williams, second wife of Dr Handasyde Duncan. In this photograph she is approximately 21 years. Anne, daughter of Captain Richard Williams married Handasyde at Trinity Church on 8th August 1854. She died in childbirth on 21st January 1861 leaving behind three small children.

Handasyde Duncan sailed as surgeon on the Katherine Stewart Forbes and arrived in Adelaide in 1839. He was consulting physician and surgeon to the new Adelaide Hospital. In 1844 was the third member to be admitted to the seven member Medical Board of South Australia. He became an Anglican lay preacher. He helped to establish the Collegiate School of St Peter's. He was also Worshipful Master of the Lodge of Unity at Port Adelaide. He was remembered as being a man of scrupulous rectitude with a sense of fun and laughter.

Frederick Hansborough Dutton, founder of Anlaby was the third son of Frederick Hugh Hampton Dutton. Son Frederick (1812-1890) took up a sheep run which had been founded by Captain John Finniss and named it Anlaby. As well as being a grazier he was a Member of the Upper House, mining investor, overlander and sheep breeder. He invested in copper and later left Anlaby, which was the oldest stud sheep station in South Australia, to his nephew Henry Dutton

John Henry Osborn Eaton

John Henry Osborn Eaton, 1869-1948, engineer and public servant. Born at Goolwa, educated at Whinham College in North Adelaide and joined SA Water Conservation Department in 1884. He was Engineer in Chief from 1929-35 and the South Australian representative on Murray River Commission from 1919-1946. He also was Member of the Council of the Institute of Engineers of Australia from 1924-27.

Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh

Alfred Ernest Albert, Duke of Edinburgh 1844-1900, second son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. He was known as the Duke of Edinburgh from 1866 until he succeeded his paternal uncle Ernest II as the reigning Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in the German Empire. During his naval career, while in command of the 'Galatea', he visited Glenelg on 31 October, 1867. He was the first member of the Royal Family to visit Australia. Prince Alfred College was named in his honour to mark such an occasion.

Duke of Edinburgh, second son of Queen Victoria, spent three week visiting South Australia in 1867. After travelling on to Melbourne and Tasmania he arrived in Sydney, There he was wounded in the back by a revolver fired by an Irishman. After his complete recovery he returned to England. He visited Australia again in 1869 and 1871. Melbourne and Sydney both have hospitals commemorating his escape from death (Royal Prince Alfred Hospital)
