Samuel Dixon

Samuel Dixon

Samuel Dixon was one of the original members of the Board of Commissioners and a member of the Field Naturalists responsible for the Tree Planting Committee at Belair National Park. He instigated the exchange of seeds between the Australian colonies and with other countries, using the local flora in a two way exchange. He believed in the value of conserving endemic species and managed to secure the eastern part of the park as a land of refuge for the native flora. A Giant Redwood stands as a testament to Samuel Dixon after he travelled to Brisbane to obtain seeds for this shade tree. In 1888 Dixon together with Walter Gooch and James Page prevented the subdivision of the land by urging the Government to establish a public park on the land. The National Park Act received the Governor's assent in January 1892. Dixon resigned from the board in 1905.

See "The Obliquity of the Ecliptic" by George F Dodwell, BA, FRAS. He was a devout Christian who believed that a sudden shift of the earth's axis caused the floods of Noah. According to a researcher 'G F Dodwell's hypothesis has found undeniable support and confirmation from megalithic structures that confirm what he had arrived at.'
