Ambrotype portrait of Sir Arthur Blyth, seated and wearing a long coat with a waistcoat and checked trousers. The buttons of his shirt, watch chain and a ring on his finger have been tinted gold. In his hand is a rolled scroll with the date 'Aug. 1857'. In an embossed leather case with a gilt metal frame. Sir Arthur Blyth was Premier of South Australia three times, 1864-65, 1871-72, 1873-75. He was also Agent General for fifteen years. He arrived in South Australia with his parents in 1839 on board the "Ariadne". He was a founder of the Adelaide Club, a devout Anglican and a governor of St Peter's Collegiate School
