Gottlieb Rosenzweig

Gottlieb Rosenzweig

Gottlieb and Wilhelmine Rosenzweig of Moculta. According to a researcher, in 1890 Gottlieb would have been about 51 years old. Wilhelmine is wearing a full-length silk gown in black, with lace embellishments around the collar. This may have been a wedding dress, but she is not wearing the long white lace veil or myrtle crown in the photograph, so it is unlikely to be a wedding portrait. Rather the image is likely to have coincided with the funeral of their first child Carl Gotthilf Rosenzweig, who died within a fortnight of his birth: Carl Gotthilf Rosenzweig (born 22 November 1865; died 5 December 1865).
