Historical information

L.O. Betts was a patron of the Port Adelaide Rowing Club. He was born at Alberton in 1886. He attended the local school, but showed so much ability that his parents sent him to Way College in Adelaide. Thence he proceeded to the University of Adelaide and duly graduated in medicine and surgery. At Maitland, SA, he built up a very successful practice, but on the outbreak of the First World War he became a military surgeon and at tained to the rank of colonel. He died in January 1943.
