Palmerston. Sub. Inspector of Police's Quarters (Mr Paul Foelsche) After arriving in Palmerston and realising there was no Police Station Foelsche and his six troopers built one. His first residence was a two room tin hut which was later replaced by a three roomed house in Mitchell Street. Paul Foelsche was Keeper of the Palmerston Gaol from 1872 - 1874. The quarters were built on the site of what was later to be the Government Administrative Offices, almost facing the Cable Quarters.

Palmerston. Police Station which was very close to the Police Station erected subsequently. The wooden building which had window frames with vertical shutters to catch any breezes had a galvanised tin roof and a large water tank. The office had been patched with canvas at one end.

Mount Vivian Station - remains of a police outpost camp set up in 1883. Used as a "dug out" as protection from the heat. A hundred yards away a long shallow trench was dug for police horses to be tethered, with cane grass shelter on top.

[General description] Upper body portrait of Police Sergeant John R. Ewens. He has short hair and mutton chop whiskers. In 1852 he was one of James Chambers' mail riders on the Coorong, later became a member of the South Australian Police Force from 1853. He was associated with the Adelaide- Melbourne telegraph line and with Major Warburton's explorations.

Alexander Tolmer, Commissioner of Police [duplicate copy at B 6851] Born in England of French refugee parents he migrated to South Australia in 1840 when he was 25. He had a history of brashness and brawling but was appointed Police Commissioner in 1852. He devised a gold escort from the Victorian Gold Fields. He was married twice and had 9 children.

S.A. Police Headquarters, Angas Street, south side, 4 June 1965. This multi-storey building was erected in Angas Street in 1965, replacing the buildings on this site dating from 1891. Later the headquarters moved to Greenhill Road, Eastwood and later to Flinders Street in 1993. In 2001 the South Australian Police Headquarters returned to Angas Street to new premises at number 100.

Memorial to the Gold Escort Route north of Horshma on the Dimboola Road. The sign reads, "Police Commissioner Alexander Tolmer led the first Mt. Alexander gold escort this way March 1852.
