[Information provided by Maree Arnold.] According to a researcher, the vessel just visible in the background is the 'Oscar W', rather than the 'Saddler'. "Colonel" operated from approximately 1894. One of her barges sank near Yarrawonga blocking the river. "JG Arnold" was built from the wreck of the "Arbuthnot".

River Steamer "Viola". According to a researcher, the Paddle steamer Viola did not exist as such until about 1910-11. Previous to this she was a steam launch and wasn't actually built until 1898. This photo was taken during her life as a fishing steamer, as seen by the fishing poles etc. on deck, so it was probably during her ownership by the Conner family of Boundary Bend. Her next owner c.1933, was William Wilson, also a professional fisherman.

The boat was a vital part of the construction of South Australia's locks, weirs and the Goolwa barrages. This boat was an experiment as it pushed its freight ahead instread of towing the barges astern. The photograph shows the paddle steamer just prior to its launch. Two figures are standing on the grass beside the boat. She served from 1916 to 1938. She was built by American Washington Meredith

She was restored and currently carries passengers at the Port of Echuca.
