Edward Bate Scott
Edward Bate Scott, explorer, squatter and government official. He joined a cattle drive from Melbourne to Adelaide where he met EJ Eyre. He supported Eyre on the expedition to the interior. Later he explored the Murray River. He ran the Government Station at Moorundee and was a stockowner near Morgan. Later he moved to Goolwa on Encounter Bay, then moved to Adelaide where he became Superintendent of Yatala Prison in 1869. He died at Hamilton Lodge, his residence at Currency Creek and is buried in the local cemetery [duplicate copy at PRG 458/1/2/30].

[General description] A group of dignitaries is seated on the Town Hall stage at Sir Alexander Hore-Ruthven's swearing in. He is addressing the assembly, standing behind a small table on which his ceremonial helmet stands. Lady Zara Hore-Ruthven is seated on the right and on the left is the Lieutenant Governor Sir George Murray. Behind the group a pair of Union flags are displayed, one on each side of the Town Hall organ. Cockenzie House, Scotland
Cockenzie House, Scotland: birthplace of Francis Cadell. In the foreground is the canvas boat "Forerunner" in which Cadell navigated the River Murray from Swan Hill to Wellington in 1852. Cockenzie House is a long plain but attractive mansion dating from the 17th century and long held in the Cadell family. It is situated in the seaside town of Cockenzie and Port Seton, on the banks of the Firth of Forth in East Lothian, a few miles east of Edinburgh

P.S. Bourke. According to a researcher, Captain George Wallace captained this boat while working for the Chaffey brothers at Renmark and Mildura. He also captained the 'Dispatch' across Lake Alexandrina mail run for 20 years. Saved 11 lives. He is buried at Milang cemetery. His brother John Wallace was also a river captain. Another researcher has provided the following information: 'This is the North Adelaide Cricket team which, over Easter of 1895, took a trip to Murray Bridge, Milang and Point McLeay.'

Anderson; the gentleman sitting third from the left in the second row is J. E. Craigie. The man standing third from the right, looking rather dapper, is E.G. Phillips. The fifth gentleman appears to be W.J. Hoath (back row, third from left)." Another researcher added more information: 'This is the North Adelaide Cricket team which, over Easter of 1895, took a trip to Murray Bridge, Milang and Point McLeay. The team included a future Australian Test captain Clem Hill (seated towards the left ot the grooup, between and slightly behind the chap in light dress who is sitting furthest left and the seasoned chap in the striped blazer). Others in the group included South Australian cricketers A. Wilkinson, J.E. Craigie, F. Jarvis (standing back right), A.M. Pettinger and E.G. Phillips. The party included De Mole, Bayer, Sadler, Finlayson, Kilsby and Mayfield [plus Hoath, Dailey and Anderson].

This five storey building designed in 1913/14 by architects English and George Klewitz Soward is built of red brick with cream detailing. The building is symmetrical and the entrance uses Murray Bridge granite and freestone with a castellated parapet over the entry.

This five storey building designed in 1913/14 by architects English and George Klewitz Soward is built of red brick with cream detailing. The building will be symmetrical and the entrance uses Murray Bridge granite and freestone with a castellated parapet over the entry. This photograph shows the empty block on the western side of the building upon which the rest of this symmetric building is to be built.

James Place, Adelaide
James Place, Adelaide, east side, in January 1912. The bicycle in the foreground is 31 yards north of Grenfell Street. The left side of Murray's mantle factory (on extreme left), is 70 yards north of Grenfell Street. The building in the centre, No. 28 James Place, was then occupied by R.W.Swann Insurance and Wiseman Brothers Warehouse. Much later tenants included the Ancient Order of Forrestors Friendly Society and Canterbury Books (the Anglican bookshop). In 2008 the building was occupied by Blackeby's Sweets.

The buildings between King William Street and Exchange Place comprise of The Royal Insurance Company, Ward and Company Sharebrokers and City Chambers which houses various firms including Murray Hayward Solicitors, Elite Milinary School, TJ Lexton Woolbrokers, Bullock and Company Valuators, House, Land and Estate Agents.

Pirie Street, north side, looking east. On the corner of Manufacturers Place are two lamp posts stating "Entrance to Dress circle and Front Stalls at Rickards Tivoli Theatre". Ward and Company Stock and Sharebreakers stand on the corner of Manufacturers Place. Next door the building houses FW Bullock and Company and Murray Hayward and Magery Solicitors. Afternoon teas are offered in Exchange Place. Pirie Chambers are further along the north side of Pirie Street.
