History of Mount Gambier and the South East District, written by John Halford Sheppard. In two volumes (chapters 1-22 & 23-45), it comprises typescript pages, with illustrations provided by both original photographs and material cut from newspapers and journals, all with identification. There are numerous handwritten amendments to the text throughout. See below for further detail.

Plan and description of the South Australian Company's run near Mount Gambier, in the County of Grey, containing more or less one hundred and eighty square miles. Shows position of Home Station, Wool Shed and huts, and German Creek and large Plain (swampy in winter) at west end near Lake Bonney. Boundary lines of run shown in miles, with adjoining landowners' names, from Mount Gambier in clockwise direction: Leake, D. Black, Johnston, Mitchell, Davenport, and Leake. Northern point at Bald Hill, with Mount Gambier Police Station, Mount Schank and Mitchell's Hill indicated outside run. Ink on paper, faint ink notation. Signed by William Giles, Manager S.A. Co. at bottom. Scale of half an inch to one mile. Stamped 18.4.[18]48. On verso: '1847 Plan and description of Run at Mount Gambier Rec.d 18 April - Presented to Board 20 April'[1848]. Wattle Day, Mount Gambier

A group of young women, girls and boys on Wattle Day, Saturday 29 August 1914, in Mount Gambier with trays of Wattle blossom to sell to raise money for the Ladies Patriotic Fund; they stand in front of the Mount Gambier New Institute building where notices advertise a concert by South Australian baritone, Peter Dawson and soprano, Annetta George, that had been held on the previous Thursday.

The location of home station, huts and other features (21 in all) and their distance from Mount Gambier shown by numbers relating to key at top right hand corner of map. Suitability of different areas for sheep and cattle noted. Mount Shank[sic] and Bald Hill also shown. Names of adjoining landowners recorded, from Mount Gambier in clockwise direction: Sturt (now Mitchell's), Leake, D. Black, Messrs Mitchell & Johnson, Devenport[sic], Leake and Sturt. Ink on paper, ink notation. Signed by Alfred Swaine, Superintendent, at bottom right hand corner. No scale given but boundary lines of run shown in miles. Stamped 21.1.[18]51. Man in centre is Stanley (Stan) Hamilton Elliott, Mayor of Mount Gambier 1958-1964 and 1967 to 1971, born 19 September 1909, married Ivy Florence (Jean) McTavish 24 August 1938, died 17 July 1990.
