[General description] Mrs. Sarah Caldwell, wife of the Presbyterian minister Mr Robert A. Caldwell in her pony trap outside the Presbyterian Manse in Mount Gambier. Mrs Caldwell is wearing a cloak, a veiled beflowered hat and has a rug across her lap. A young man is attending the two ponies. The two storey stone manse can be seen behind the picket fence. [General description] The original St. Andrews Church, built in 1860 of stone and situated on high ground. The manse is a two storey stone building featuring Dutch gables. Both buildings appear to have slate roofs. The fencing around the church property is of post and rail, with one section of palings. In 1871 the new church was built next to the original building which was subsequently demolished. See B 13427 for the new church. [On back of photograph] 'First Presbyterian Church and Manse, Mt. Mt. Gambier Roller Flour Mill: Under verandah - Tom Lewis, Alf Lewis, Bill Smith, Roger Battye, Jack Wilson (in cart), (sitting) Jim Telfer. The Mount Gambier Roller Four Mill was built in 1885 on the corner of Sturt Street and Bay Road, by Thomas Henry Williams. The mill was expanded in the late 1890s and 1900. Thomas Williams was also on the town council in 1876 and was mayor from 1881 - 1882. He was the first man to own a motor car in Mount Gambier. This was the fourth mill built by Thomas Williams. His second mill, the Commercial Steam Flour Mill, was located on Percy Street, and built in 1867.

Saddler shop in Commercial Street East in Mt. Gambier. Proprietors: W.A. Crouch, 1856-1870 and J. Heinemann, 1863-1874. Mr Crouch was credited with having blazed the track from Mount Gambier to Penola by marking the trees, and traversed the district on foot. He built the first two storey store in Mount Gambier opposite Lange and Company in Commercial Street, East and the building afterwards became the Catholic Convent

Kieselbach Coffee Palace. Mt. Gambier, built in 1884 by Ad. Kieselbach, 'Baker, Confectioner and Caterer'. Built from Mount Gambier stone It is a plain two storey building with a verandah out front. Later it was extensively remodelled and became the Palace Hotel (See B 15846).
