mosaic is a pixel based artwork, created through computer programs on an Acorn Archimedes computer. A fractal generator may have been used, in conjunction with other software and assorted manipulation techniques to create a sequence of images or multiple iterations of the image design. It was included on the same disk as 2sphrsLine.


S.A. Northern Pioneers 1850-59
Photographic composite entitled 'S.A. Northern Pioneers 1850-59' comprising 122 portraits, one of which is lost, leaving a blank oval frame. The mosaic was compiled in 1908 by Mora Studio, Rundle Street, Adelaide. The individual photographs were collected in 1906 and 1907 by stock agent Henry Howard 'Harry' Birt, who had been a drover and stockman in the pastoral regions of Australia from 1858 until 1880. He is depicted at B 6912/I5. The mosaic was given to the South Australian Branch of the Royal Geographical Society of Australasia in 1915 and subsequently transferred to the State Library of South Australia (then Public Library) in 1939.

Photograph of a photographic composite entitled 'S.A. Northern Pioneers 1850-59' comprising 120 portraits. The original mosaic was compiled in 1908 by Mora Studio, Rundle Street, Adelaide. The individual photographs were collected in 1906 and 1907 by stock agent Henry Howard 'Harry' Birt, who had been a drover and stockman in the pastoral regions of Australia from 1858 until 1880. He is depicted at B 8502/I5. The original of this mosaic was acquired by pastoralist and stock and station agent Samuel Joseph Stuckey. He died in 1912 and the fate of the original work is not known.

They were transferred to the State Library of South Australia (then Public Library) by the South Australian Branch of the Royal Geographical Society of Australasia in 1939 and assigned the numbers B 8505 and B 8506. In 2013 Artlab Australia conservators removed the photographs and original support paper from backing cardboard and reassembled the complete mosaic using acid-free materials.
