General notes

Mosaic coordinate: 14M.

This portrait is mistakenly identified as Charles Thorpe, 1797-1873, on page 8 of 'The Thorpe family history 1797?-1978' published in 1978. Henry Jones took the photograph in 1872 and shows a man in his fifties (Charles Thorpe was 75 years old in 1872). The original index to the mosaic identifies the man as George Mildwaters. There was inter-marriage between the Thorpe and Mildwaters families in 1895.
