Map of sections in the Special Survey of the Western Sources of the Torrens [Hundred of Talunga], annotated to show purchases of Sections 6252-6254 by the South Australian Company on 25 May 1854, shown in green. These sections are located between Gumeracha and Forreston. Ink and watercolour on paper, ink notation. Scale 2 inches to 1 mile. Handwritten signature 'E.R.S.' in left hand bottom corner. Includes some notes on natural features, text on sections formed into companies and sections not formed into companies. Coast and rivers hand coloured blue. Relief shown by hachures and pictorially.

Untitled map showing land purchased on 20 March 1851 by the South Australian Company on sections 2 and 6 near Kingscote. Note added: "Nos 1 & 3 are reserved by the Government for the present". Other sections 2001-2012 along the Cygnet River, south west of Kingscote and 1001-1002 at Shoal Point are indicated. The coastline of Shoals Bay is drawn from Company's Point to Point Marsden with location of inland salt and fresh lagoons. Initials 'A.W.' in bottom right hand corner. Annotated map of Lake Eyre and Northern South Australia showing Dr. Helmet Wopfner's route of first crossing of the southern Simpson Desert by motor vehicle. The map shows the route taken from Cowarie to Oodnadatta. This was subsequnetly followed by the party of the Premier of South Australia, Sir Thomas Playford from Sunday 26th June 1960 to Thursday 7th July 1960. Included with the Premier was C.T. Easley (Resident Manager, Delhi Aust. Petroleum Ltd.), T.A. Barnes (Director of Mines), L.W. Parkin (Deputy Director of Mines), L.R. Steel, (District Engineer E. & W.S. Dept.), J.B. Whitford (District Suptd. E. & W.S. Dept.), Dr. H. Wopfner (Geologist, Department of Mines), L. Glassop (The Advertiser), J. Clarke (The News), W. Bonython, and J. Rattus (Foreman Fitter).

The boundaries of the hundreds with the County are shown in colours and an inset map shows the adjoining Counties of Russell and Sturt around the Murray Lakes, Hindmarsh Island and the Murray Mouth. Lake Alexandrina is shown as Lake Victoria (its change of name proposed after the accession of Queen Victoria). Archival copies indicate land and section holdings of the South Australian Company.

Plan of the western shores of Lake Torrens [cartographic material]

Babbage, Benjamin Herschel, c. 1860, Archival map/chart, C 85

Probably C.H. Harris' survey of the eastern shore of Lake Torrens in the course of Babbage's expedition of 1858. A researcher has identified the creator of this map as Benjamin Herschel Babbage for the following reasons: 1.The style and handwriting matches the style and handwriting of Babbage's other maps. 2. Babbage was supposed to map the western shore of Lake Torrens in 1858, but because of a lack of water that year, neither Babbage nor his second-in-command, William (W.G.) Harris (unrelated to C.H. Harris) mapped it. 3. In October to December 1860, Benjamin Herschel Babbage and his son, Charley, made a private trip to Lake Torrens. Babbage wrote a letter to his father, Charles Babbage about this journey and described mapping the western shore of Lake Torrens from late November to early December. 4. Charley Babbage did sketches of the trip, including of Louden's Station and of parts of Lake Torrens while they were doing the mapping work. These sketches are held by the National Library in Canberra. Importantly, the sketches are dated (day, month, and year). 5. The map shows the route of the party that did the mapping work. If you look closely, the party's campsites are marked on the map and the dates (in November - no year given) when they were at each campsite match exactly with the dates on Charley's sketches, and the dates in Babbage's letter to his father.

Cadastral map of the 'District of Adelaide' with Adelaide, North Adelaide and surrounding parklands, Port Adelaide, Holdfast Bay and Glenelg down to the area just south of Marino, the rivers of the Adelaide plains and Port River, and the foothills of the Mount Lofty Ranges shown. The land sections are all numbered and those held by the South Australian Company coloured in green. Areas within the town grids for Adelaide and North Adelaide have been coloured in red. The map gives a clear indication of the extent of vegetation in 1838 across the Adelaide district. Scale 2 inches to 1 mile. Hand drawn map based on the survey by Light, Finniss & Co., with their company's name and the date October 1838 written in ink, at bottom centre of map. (This map came from the London office of the South Australian Company. It appears to predate the maps of the same area published in London by John Arrowsmith from February 1839 onwards).
