Summary

Annotated map of Lake Eyre and Northern South Australia showing Dr. Helmet Wopfner's route of first crossing of the southern Simpson Desert by motor vehicle. The map shows the route taken from Cowarie to Oodnadatta. This was subsequnetly followed by the party of the Premier of South Australia, Sir Thomas Playford from Sunday 26th June 1960 to Thursday 7th July 1960. Included with the Premier was C.T. Easley (Resident Manager, Delhi Aust. Petroleum Ltd.), T.A. Barnes (Director of Mines), L.W. Parkin (Deputy Director of Mines), L.R. Steel, (District Engineer E. & W.S. Dept.), J.B. Whitford (District Suptd. E. & W.S. Dept.), Dr. H. Wopfner (Geologist, Department of Mines), L. Glassop (The Advertiser), J. Clarke (The News), W. Bonython, and J. Rattus (Foreman Fitter).
