'Battunga', Echunga
Identified on the verso as 'Battunga' (the original building), and home of Robert Davenport at Echunga. The painting shows wheat being harvested with the cottage in the middle distance. This appears to be based on an S.T. Gill painting - see B 38999. Notes on the back of the photograph say "The original house at Battunga, Echunga home of Robert Davenport. Mr and Mrs R Davenport arrived in the "Templar" December 1846 and in January 1847 went to this home. The present house (now in possession of Mr L Smith) was erected some years later - 48 -50. The site was the one chosen by George Francis Davenport who arrived in 1840 but at his death in 1843, was taken over by his brother, Robert. The scene shows the hill where wheat grown took the prize in London - 1850? See B38999"
